If you ask, does it really need to be celebrated? It is a matter of personal choice whether to celebrate it or not. However, it has been a tradition that there will always be a celebration afterwards. That is why some people may have a hard time setting up a date because they need to consider many things. For some, it is not enough to have only the wedding ceremony part. There will always be a party even if it is not that grandiose.
Any professional DJ/MC should be able to provide you with a list of recent referrals not just one or two, but seven to ten. Call those referrals. You should get similar feedback from each of them. Ask if the DJ/MC went above the call of duty in any way and how they helped make your event a success. For example, at one of my events, the event coordinator at the facility became ill right before the reception started. I quietly filled in and took over unbeknownst to the bride and groom, who had no idea what had happened until after the event was over.
